Facebook’s Zuckerberg Makes A Baby Announcement on Facebook

Written by on August 3, 2016

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg took to Facebook on Friday to announce that he and his wife Priscilla Chan are expecting a baby girl. But the announcement also talked about miscarriages Ms. Chan had suffered in the process or trying to have a baby.

Mr. Zuckerberg wrote that he and Ms. Chan had had three miscarriages before the ongoing pregnancy. Mr. Zuckerberg’s Facebook post has more than one and a half million likes as of now.  In announcing the baby news on Facebook, Mr. Zuckberg is merely following the patterns of hundreds of millions of Facebook users who do so as the platform remains the most popular online forum where people share marriage announcements, marriage photos, pregnancy announcements, newborn baby photos, and so on.

“Most people don’t discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you — as if you’re defective or did something to cause this,” he wrote. “So you struggle on your own.”

It’s known to medical science since long that most conceptions don’t end up in deliveries. Most miscarriages in fact happen so early in the pregnancy that the fact of conception having occurred may be entirely unknown to the to-be parents. What is (somewhat) odd about this post is that Mr. Zuckerberg is not quite your typical over-sharing millenial young man or woman. He is more inclined to keep his private life private much as Steve Jobs of Apple did. The broader public will likely let the Zuckerberg family live in privacy — something Hollywood celebrities and other sporting celebrities as well as UK Royal babies are denied. Mr. Zuckberg’s private life has been quite free of drama — much as that of Bill Gates of Microsoft and unlike Mr. Jobs of Apple.

Mr. Zuckerberg joins Ms. Sheryl Sandberg, the COO, in using Facebook to pen thoughts on important life moments. Ms. Sandberg had posted on Facebook about the death of her husband, Dave Goldberg.

Facebook is doing good as is its CEO Mr. Zuckerberg.
