BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BBM: A Strategic Alternative
An ad aired during broadcast of reality game show “the Amazing Race Canada” that said BBM for iOS and Android is “coming soon” caused speculation about timing of the cross platform BBM release this week. In May, CEO of BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY), Thorsten Heins announced about the event in which popular social messaging app would be reviled worldwide on Android and Apple by the end of summer.
The company is going to offer details about the forthcoming launch of its BlackBerry Messenger app. BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY) has sent invitations to an event in Malaysia on Wednesday. A spokeswoman of BlackBerry in Waterloo validated only that invitations were sent to the Asia press event under the heading of “To find out how to make every conversation feel like you’re there” but did not gave the details of the event.
In early August, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.(KRX:005930) given a statement that BBM will soon be available for free in the Google Play and the Samsung App store for Samsung Galaxy smartphone consumers across Africa. Analysts are saying that it’s seems the Samsung partnership will be expanded ultimately across global markets after these two companies made an agreement for joint marketing efforts to showcase BBM for Android to mobile users across the continent.
The speculation is high that the event might contain detail release specifications for the BlackBerry 9720 handset on the legacy BB7 platform which is launching in countries across the region including India. In addition, the company could unveil its latest, biggest smartphone, the 5-inch Z30, a touchscreen handset operating on the BB10 platform that may debut in Asia followed by a U.S. launch within the next three weeks.
The Z30 will have an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode display technology, a dual-core processor with 2 GBs of memory and an 8-megapixel camera. A fall Z30 launch would follow the trail of Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s unveiling of its new iPhone 5s featuring finger scan security technology and the lower tier iPhone 5c, both running an updated iOS 7 platform.
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) shares were up 2.33% in last session and closed at $10.56 .
