Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NYSE:AMD) Will Be Eliminated From S&P 500 Index, Moving To S&P MidCap 400

Written by on September 12, 2013

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) will be eliminated from S&P 500 (INDEXSP:.INX) on Sept. 20. The action was revealed by S&P Dow Jones Indices. It came a day after Hewlett-Packard was eliminated from the list of 30 stocks that include the Dow Jones Industrial Average. AMD will be transferred to the S&P MidCap 400.

Today, AMD announced that its partnership with Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) has touched a new landmark to provide quicker and more sophisticated professional video workflows. The two companies’ significance in OpenCL™ acceleration conveys that video and film professionals, as well as fanatics, can be benefited fully in their everyday and more compute-intense workloads by the highly parallel computer power of AMD APUs, Radeon™ graphics, and AMD FirePro™ professional graphics. New advance features and proficient workflows announced by Adobe for Adobe® Premiere® Pro CC, Adobe SpeedGrade® CC, and Adobe Media Encoder CC make use of AMD App Acceleration via OpenCL and provide efficient, significant edge support for Blackmagic Design and Vision Research Phantom® cameras.

Steve Belt, AMD’s corporate vice president, Strategic Alliances & Platform Enablement,  said that AMD and Adobe are responding to the requirements of imaginative professionals working in a wide range of workflows and environments. They are beating AMD’s inspiring multi-core and parallel processing capacity to give accelerated performance required to bring a new class of advanced software tools to Adobe Creative Cloud™ users, by working together using open standards. This enables pros to boldly deal with projects at every level, whether the final destination is a smartphone, 4K projection, or anything in between.

Today’s announcement advances one more step in developments that were disclosed by AMD and Adobe at NAB 2013. At that time the companies brought improved OpenCL support through the Adobe Mercury Playback Engine, which allows professionals to optimize their Adobe Premiere Pro CC workflows by giving the acceleration required for real-time effects, color grading, multi-format and composting support. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) shares were down -1.70% to $3.76 in current session.
